Spirit

I am in the Spirit of Christmas and soaking up all the excitement that it brings. Ignoring the blog. I know. It's terrible. But you're busy too..right? Shopping, wrapping, drinking hot cocoa while listening to Christmas music and admiring my tree. It's all very cliche, I know..but I love every minute of it. :) This week will be a whirlwind of last minute gifts, cooking, baking, preparing for a Christmas Eve party and a Christmas morning brunch plus many other festivities.
I have a few ideas including a purse giveaway and an after Christmas sale!
So, please don't forget me all together!
We can hang out in January when there is NOTHING to do but workout and shoe sale. :)
In pursuit of a little Spirit of Christmas in all of our hearts,

Frye Boots, how I love thee. Let me count the ways...

One would think that after being at this for sometime now, that I would be able to melt away into a dreamy sleep after a week of rest. However, it never seems to fail that sometimes the excitement of the season leaves me Alas, still awake. Perfect time for a delinquent blogger to get some crap up to date.

Pictured above,,the Frye Villager..go ahead and whistle....definitely not your 60s Frye "Campus" boot or 80s square toed biker "Harness" boot

These are FRYE BOOTS. Go anywhere, do anything boots—the originals. Timeless, ageless, suitable for wear with the airiest of dresses, the grungiest of jeans, for the reality of life where I tend to live. Reality being unpaved, untamed, and unpredictable. I have a pair very similar to these..although these are knee boots! even better!

And I rock my boots. Or they rock me—I don’t care which. I have been coveting Frye boots for some time, aware that even a pair of knock offs is out of my price range for the present. Still, I could dream. And dreams can come true.
These $228 authentic Frye Villager beauties can be yours for $55...find them in my store...Holly's Haven.

In other news, I have been slacking on my blogging because the inside of my life is actually becoming rather labor intensive. In a most excellent and exceptionally fulfilling way! Who knew I could find such joy in overloading my schedule!! Oh well, I'm just going to keep towing the line with my do-gooding and hope that the universe or God or someone will look kindly upon me one of these days very soon. In the meantime, you can expect me to wear my Frye boots with continued devotion!!
In pursuit of my devotion to shoes,
holly
p.s. Thank you for reading and for coming back to check up on me! xo

Thankfulness

I am Thankful for......

  • My family for being unconditionally supportive of me.
  • My children. I have two beautiful little people that are the most incredible and amazing blessings I could ever imagine. All my life I dreamed of becoming a mommy. When I was a little girl, I loved playing with my dolls and I was very serious about their care. Being a mom has always been a desire of my heart.
  • My parents: I'm thankful to be the daughter of two very loving, supportive people. My father is gone now but never forgotten and always loved. I know how much he adored me and how much my mom does, too.
  • My brother and sis in law who know me better than most and love me more than a lot!
  • Sunshine: Doesn't it feel good? I know, too much isn't such a good thing, but, ooh, just to soak it up for a while, either outside or in a sunny window, is one of my favorite things.
  • People who read Heart Over Heels . . I love the comments you leave. . Thank you for your kindness. Thank you for telling your friends about my blog. Thank you for reading.
  • Creative People. I'm inspired by the makers and doers around me. Crafters. Artists. Patient mothers. I love knowing so many people who are building a life they love. Brick by brick. Passionate people who gain their own personal satisfaction by being so. I heart creativity in all it's forms.
  • Any opportunity to share, listen and be with people I care about.
  • My health and the health of my family and loved ones.
  • I am thankful for veterans. I am grateful to those men and women who in the past and present have served our nation to defend and protect our lives and freedoms. I am thankful that they were courageous enough to join military and/or civilian service. I am thankful for their families who also sacrifice.
  • All Things Cozy. ‘Tis the season for down comforters, fuzzy sweaters, and Ugg Boots!
  • The coffee pot being full when I wake up – thank you digital coffee pot
  • My spirituality and beliefs and the gift to learn each new day.
  • Music, nourishment for my soul....there's a song for every mood from happiness to the blues and I wouldn't have it any other way.
  • Books – Oh literature, who would I be without you?
  • My mom’s recipes, good conversation, true friends, red wine, children laughing, hugs, sunrises over the mountains, guitars, sunsets on the beach, a crackling fire, chocolate, grandparents, live Christmas trees, holding hands, fall weekends....
  • Love.
  • Grace.

There are many, many more things I truly am thankful for and when I "count my blessings" I'm amazed at how great life really is!

All about a good cause

Who would have thunk it? Putting studded belts on a pair of Uggs. Certainly not I!
My very favorite Australian footwear company has recruited a few even more famous shoe designers to help makeover Uggs for charity. They have enlisted the skills of Manolo Blahnik, Carlos Falchi and Rebecca Minkoff to create a one-off customised Ugg boot in order to raise funds for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis.
These artfully designed boots will be sold off via the Uggs Australia website as part of the seventh annual Art & Sole auction December 1-14. Yet another reason to fall in love with Uggs. :) Don't miss the other cool designs! Which are your favorite?

Today

Today,
I've learned...... that you cannot wear your worn out workout shorts to the gym. You know..the ones with the stretched out elastic waistband? I know you have a pair too. The ones you used to wear to the gym but now you throw on in the morning to clean the house before you shower. The ones you only actually wear to the gym when everything else is dirty? Well, I learned that when you attend Zumba class in said shorts and start jumping up and down and dancing around they just might fall down. And you just might spend the entire class dancing while pulling your shorts up....Therefore looking like the biggest goober in the world.

I read......People magazine. A complete and utter waste of time and brain energy. Front page...Tim McGraw.."My wife makes me a better person" . I mean really, you are just discovering that after ALL these years???

I wore....my faded out jeans with my Frye cowgirl boots and my most favorite comfy sweater.

I listened to.......Norah Jones newest album The Fall. I did love it. Almost the highlight of my day. http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=120013389

I kissed.....both of my children.

I cooked....homemade mashed potatoes and BBQ chicken.

I laughed .......at my son. He makes me laugh all day long and I am a better person because of the innocent humor he brings into my life.

Today....
I've learned....I still have a lot to learn.

Trivial

I took a short trip to my "home" in the mountains..up over the clouds, to where the sky was blue... being there reminds me so much of Dad and of how trivial many things in life are.....
Today.....I am feeling renewed and what better time to go in search of fab finds and designs! hey now, shoes just MIGHT be trivial...but passions in life will never be...:) stay tuned!
Happy F13...

Handsome

What a beautiful and perfect day! Today, WLCG received a birthday party invitaion from a girl in his preschool class. He examined it, set it aside and proceeded to go about the very serious business of disassembling his new Herbie.
Later this evening as we were getting his PJ's on, he says to me.."Mom, I am going to be handsome for Bay-wee's birthday party. You have to pick out something handsome for me so that I will be handsome there."
Awe. I will double make sure of it.

Where The Wild Things Are

Oh, guys. Where the Wild Things Are was so good. So, so good.

We were lucky enough to see this movie the day it was released in a very nice theater in Charleston. .I really don't even know what to tell you. If the costume and set designers don't win academy awards for this, then justice has not been done. I've never seen anything like it...every minute was a visual treat. It's just insane the emotion and character development of the monsters and how they were EXACTLY like the character illustrations in the book.

Also, Max Records, who played Max, was magical. At first I thought he was too old for the character, but he was a fantastic little actor who was full of emotion and who was so everything beautiful about little boys in one tough-but-vulnerable, medium-sized package that I was completely in love. I was especially touched by how much he's like WLCG. He is naughty and mad and out of control and wonderful and imaginative and sweet and funny. The mom was great too, and the two of them together brought me to tears.

However, I didn't cry like I thought I would. It was beautiful and nostalgic and wonderful in every sense of the word and I did tear up at least twice. Also, it wasn't that scary. There's one scene near the beginning where the monsters gather in a circle and threaten to eat him--and that's a little scary, but the monsters were mostly funny and endearing.

Before the movie began, I was worried I would feel let down since I had built it up so much in my mind, but that didn't happen. The kids were entranced, WCLG almost wet his pants because he didn't want to miss a minute. At the beginning, there's a rough ocean scene with Max in a sailboat and the waves are crashing and the cinematography was all crazy and our seats were vibrating with the sound, and WLCG kept looking at me and saying, I love this movie Mom! Yep, I was impressed. WLCG sat at the edge of his seat, occasionally grabbing my arm and squeezing it or kissing my hand and smiling.

This seems absurdly long, but I seriously loved this movie. I think childless people would love it, I think people who haven't read the book would love it, I really can't imagine not loving it.
Ridiculously so, I was even thinking if I had a 3rd child and it was a boy, I'm naming him Max Atlas.

However, after reading reviews of the movie, many parents have said they thought the movie to be "joyless" and dark and that it isn't a kids movie. My child LOVED it. It is about a child's imagination. What is not to love about that?
So, if you haven't seen it..judge for yourself...just sayin....

An Awful Lot

Hello Bloggy! I'm baAAck!! Not that I was missed or anything...Anyway..I did take a little trip down south to one of my favorite places, Charleston, SC. Such romance and charm, history and a few ghosts too. Leisurely roaming is something I love to do.
Mom went along and well, things are always a hoot when Mom comes along. Her infectious laughter really brings out my funny side. The more she laughs, the more I can make her laugh! Don't ya love it?
Mom decided she wanted to have lunch at Bubba Gump's on Saturday...While we were enjoying our lunch of Fish and Chips and Shock Top, Mom abruptly gets up from the table and mumbles something along the lines of "be right back". We look around at each other..???? She disappears. Hmmm. Approximately 10 minutes later she appears with an excited grin on her face says "Oh! and I have something for you. " She pulls this out of her bag....

"Thought you could use it for the blog" she says. Ahhh! I think I will frame it and hang it in my office. It was a pivotal point for me..for what is a blog afterall? Many words...I am much more intrigued by actions.
It sure is the the little things......

WoW!

It's funny what even one day can do for perspective, and I have Donald J. Pliner, I have Donald J. Pliner....=)

10.11.2009

Ambiguity..say it ain't so.

So...here's the thing....I over-think EVERYTHING. Sometimes I like this about myself, I think it gives me a confident perspective on things and well, other times...it just sucks.
I started this blog because, I have a passion, I have a passion for shoes and I wanted to share that passion and also offer great bargains along the way. I realized tonight that I also have a passion for many other things in my life and it certainly isn't reflected here in my blog. No, believe it or not, I am not ALL about shoes ALL the time......The thing is this: I’m not big on sharing. I’m not the sort of person that will randomly tell you my secrets. Sharing things with people is really hard for me.

I’m stuck right now with what to do with this place. I am feeling torn. blogging about shoes all the time? notsomuch. sharing my love for shoes? absolutely. sharing my life?? hmmm

Anyway. I think I’m going to spend this week thinking some things over...oh and sharing my fab finds with you too.. =)

In pursuit of my passions,

Dear WLCG,

Happy 5th Birthday!

You are everything I never knew I needed. You're a challenge, no doubt about that, but you're also one of the most interesting characters I've ever had the pleasure of knowing (and loving!). You have a larger-than-life personality and your steadfast determination and the constant joy you get from life are inspiring.

You make me laugh on a daily basis and your smile is genuine and full of happiness, all of the time. I love the way you completely melt your body into mine when we snuggle. I love the way you love me and I love loving you back. I truly believe that you will always be my baby, no matter how old we get.

I like you, I love you and I will always protect you (as best I can).

Love,
Mom ('Da Bomb)

Twinkle Toes

Don't worry friends, I am not going to suggest you wear these ! I am at my office today and unable to access my fab finds so, I thought I would share some useless info today about gender:)

For about a month, my little fashionista has been begging for a new pair of Skechers. But, not just any Skechers will do. She has had her little heart set on showing up at school in these:

And, only these. Unfortunately, they are sold out everywhere.

Because I am a shoe-loving mama who understands, I have not told my little girl to suck it up and select another shoe. Instead, I'm on a mission. And, that mission led me to one of many shoe stores.

Male Clerk: "May I help you?"

Desperate Me: "I hope so. I need a pair of size 2 Twinkle Toes Skechers in Wisdom. Denim with the pink flower" Note my specificity.

Male Clerk: "Sorry, we're all sold out. These kind of look like them. Just tell her they're new. I work with kids all the time. That's all you have to say. She won't know the difference."

Is this guy crazy? She won't know the difference? Let me put this in man terms . . .

Do you know the difference between charcoal and gas? Between the Yankees and the Mets? Lynard Skynard and Led Zeppelin? Are they the same? I think not. If I offer you tickets to a Tennessee game, and they turn out to be for the Tennessee Museum, will you know you got screwed? I think you will.

And, I think that bringing home a pair of pink shoes with skulls and telling my daughter that they are "just like" a pair of denim shoes with pink flowers would be equivalent of telling her that there is no difference between a 4 cylinder and a 454 Chevy big block.

Just Sayin' here. only here. :) I smiled and thanked the Male Clerk for his time.

In pursuit of exactly what my twinkle toes has her heart set on,

Random Thoughts

No, really, I'm not only easily entertained, but I'm easily amazed. I don't consider these bad traits by the way, I actually think I enjoy life a little bit more because of these traits. And today I'm amazed at how a song, a smell, an object can make you think of the most random, distant thing, person, or place.

Today, I am taking a very simple mini-vaca, headed slightly south for a dose of R&R, I plan to splash in the pool with the minis, catch a ballgame or 2, read a book, eat out with friends and absolutely will be in pursuit of shoes that AMAZE me! Stay tuned...hopefully I will have something fabulous to show you soon. :)
