Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It's not. ~Dr. Seuss
I posted the One Day Without Shoes link to my FB wall yesterday. Out of my 240+ friends, I was amazed that not even ONE single person commented or even "liked" it. Perhaps it is my own love for shoes that really makes me want to reach out and help children who go without???
Yesterday, I went on a field trip with my daughters class and became friends with a beautiful little girl. We were up in the mountains and it was rainy and a chilly 60degrees. She did not have a coat and only a thin tshirt on. She told me she did not own a coat with a hood and we walked together under my umbrella. Her lunch was a bag of oreos and a drink. At the end of the day I told her I would go through some of Ky's clothes and see if I could find a coat that didn't fit anymore and bring it to her. She hugged me and looked up at me with her big beautiful blue eyes and said "Could you go through all of her clothes and bring me what she can not wear?" I almost cried. I wanted to bring her home. Driving back, thinking about children in developing countries who go without shoes, about the impact something as simple as a pair of shoes or a coat can make on a childs life......I knew this was MY chance to make a difference in the life of a child right here at home. Here I go.......
